Burn After Reading 05/30/2008
Trailer for the new Coen Bros. movie, Burn After Reading. Looks solid. TSROAW / Monkey brains control robots 05/28/2008
We did a Standard Def telecine, one light, quick pass that took 5 hours. There's 4 fucking hours of footage. This movie'll be 20 minutes max, and yet we somehow managed to shoot 4 hours. A large editing challenge awaits. Once we've got a rough assembly we'll re-telecine the neg in HD, pulling the scenes that we need. This should save some money. The footage looks good, it's all very exciting and I can't wait to get to work on the edit. Obama Aide 05/26/2008
Incredibly interesting article about Reggie Love, Barack Obama's personal aide. Excerpt: After the Democratic presidential debate in Philadelphia in April, Mr. Obama borrowed a move from the rapper Jay-Z and mimed brushing off his shoulders, but it was Mr. Love who had uploaded his music to the senator’s iPod in the first place — a silver Nano that he bought the senator for his 46th birthday. ![]() San Diego's been mellow; we shoot, we watch a film, we shoot some more, we eat. That's been the general pattern. Significantly easier then the TSROAW shoot. The benefits of a 3 person crew (it's just Jason, Sinisa, and I) are many. We're heading up to L.A. tomorrow where I've got a 1 p.m. telecine scheduled. It'll be the first time I've seen any of the footage and I'm anxious. Sinisa's assured me that there will be an image on the negative though, so that helped. I'll report back on the results. Rick Moranis in Ghostbusters. Naked 05/23/2008
A clip from Mike Leigh's exceptional film Naked. TSROAW Update 05/21/2008
![]() 1/3rd of the film is in L.A., processed. The next 2/3rds I am eagerly tracking via usps.com which tells me that the package has arrived in Burbank but has not yet been delivered to Fotokem. Nervous times. If everything works out, I'll be in San Diego from Saturday - Monday working on Jason's film, then L.A. on Tuesday for my telecine. I'm still exhausted from the shoot and feeling a little out of it, but I expect that a long night of Top Chef reruns should help somewhat. Photo courtesy of Ellie (whoops). Backwards Time 05/21/2008
![]() As if you didn't have enough to worry about, Scientific American hits us with the news that in other universes time may run backwards! An excerpt: The arrow of time is arguably the most blatant feature of the universe that cosmologists are currently at an utter loss to explain. Increasingly, however, this puzzle about the universe we observe hints at the existence of a much larger spacetime we do not observe. It adds support to the notion that we are part of a multiverse whose dynamics help to explain the seemingly unnatural features of our local vicinity. |
